It's a bit hit and miss this time of year, it would seem. Depends on the bait and if the squid and mackerel are in. Was a pleasure to see a shoal of juvenile Marlin and had 2 different species of Amberjack.

Be prepared for wind and waves. If you are accustomed to inland lake conditions I would recommend that you take motion sickness medication prior to leaving the dock and stay out on deck whenever possible.

Although I didn't really need to this particular day, layer up, it can get cold on a cloudy day, especially when your moving to spots.

You muilst take the trip as a wholesome experience. Even though we did not catch a Moby Dick we have truly enjoyed the views, sun, hills around us.

There are a great many boats operating in Funchal, so it may be hard to choose one, I really think fishing for 4 hours in the morning with Madeira Sight Casting is the best option, you have a good chance of catching with them, far better than hour after hour of mindless and very expensive trolling and the fish you do catch can still be quite spectacular

My initial review in retrospect was too harsh.I can say that at this time of year fishing was very slow.Maybe I should have booked a full day but I didn't know.The boat ,the captain and first mate were excellent and I would recommend them.I guess with only one trip I can't fairly judge the fishing opportunities.i would book again with Adriano.

Bring sunscreen, a jacket, snacks if you want, and wear clothes that can get dirty (fish gunk). And listen to the crew, they know better than you and are experienced.

Take some sea sickness medication, it worked really well for the ones who took them from our company, but those who didn’t think would get sick did get sick even though the sea was relatively calm.
